C-pen 3.0 Handheld Scanner
The
Cpen 3.0 replaces the highly popular Cpen 20 handheld scanner. The C-Pen
3.0 is a handheld scanner pen working on-line with a USB host inputting
text/number data into any host application. With a simple scan the C-Pen
3.0 recognises 180+ languages based on Latin, Cyrillic or the Greek character
set. The C-Pen 3.0 reads printed text and sends it directly to the cursor
in the active application on your computer.
Featuring an auto-trigger, the user simply puts the C-Pen towards the surface
with the printed text and the pen automatically enters into scanning mode.
The C-Pen 20 comes with host software, which is divided into three parts:
The C-Pen 20 SDK, the Abbyy FineReader OCR and the C-Pen 20 User Interface
providing a turn key user solution, featuring user selective scan type (e.g.
text). scan language etc. Simply plug your C-Pen 3.0 into a USB port on
your computer and let C-Pen start saving you time and effort. You can read
text and numbers directly into PC applications, move easily between reader
and mouse functions without releasing the pen, and even customize your mouse
pad to connect quickly and easily to your favorite web pages and start programs.
The C-Pen 3.0 SDK enables very flexible third party application development.
Both The OCR Module and the User Interface are optional and are thus replaceable.
Third party OCR engines may be integrated and can enable the recognition
of additional character sets. The option to replace the standard User interface
enables a seamless integration into any third party vertical application.

How to Read with Your C-Pen 20
1.Open a new or existing document (in any piece of text editable software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Notepad, etc) that you want to insert the scanned text into.
2. In this document, place the cursor at the position where the scanned text is to be inserted.
3.On the book/paper that is to be scanned, place the tip of C-Pen 3.0 before
the first character you want to read. The two supporting legs should be
positioned so that the centre of the text line is in the centre of the opening.
The leg with the trigger should be below the text line and the other leg
above the text line. The C-Pen will start to read the text when the automatic
trigger is pressed onto the surface and will continue to read until the
automatic trigger is released.
4.Move C-Pen over the line of text. You can move C-Pen either left-to-
right or right-to-left over the text.
5.Lift C-Pen after the last character you want to read. C-Pen stops
reading when the automatic trigger is released and the text will come up almost immediately in the document on your PC.
6.Continue in the same way for the next line.

How Do I Use the Cpen on my MAC?
When usoing the C-Pen 3.0 on a MAC the scanned text will be inserted at
the cursor position. This means that you can scan text into any standard
program.
This is an example on how to scan text into TextEdit:
- First check that the C-Pen is connected.
- Start TextEdit.
- Place the cursor in TextEdit where you want the text to appear.
NB. Do NOT click anywhere else as this will move the cursor and make your
program window "passive".
- Place the tip of the C-Pen a few millimetres before the first character
of the text. Press the C-Pen gently towards the paper and start moving
it along the text line (like you would a highlighter pen). Try to keep
a steady line! Lift the C-Pen from the paper when you have scanned the
last character of the line.
- The text you just scanned will instantly appear on your MAC screen in
TextEdit.
NB. The text is fully editable, e.g. you can change font type and
size in MS Word to customise the text. Note that there is a small automatic
trigger button at the tip of the CPen. This button activates the scanning
when the C-Pen is pressed against the paper. It is important that it is
pressed in during the complete scan. The automatic trigger is shown in
the picture to the left.
